Autumn 2011 – Newsletter No 14

Autumn Term Newsletter No 14                                                      Monday 14 November 2011

Dear Parents

New music and dance studio!: We have gained planning permission for a new building to be erected near the junior playground which we will use for all class music and dance lessons. This will mean more opportunity for classes to do indoor PE in the current hall during the winter months and more space available for after-school clubs. The building has been donated to the school but we have to pay for the transportation costs and setting up the building on site with access steps and electricity. As part of our fund raising efforts for this project we have been offered the chance of a live music event at Scallys bar in the centre of town on Friday 9th December. Two live bands will be playing throughout the evening. Tickets are £3 each paying on the door (adults only) with all of the sales going directly towards the project. Please encourage your family, friends or neighbours to put it on their calendar and then join us for a great evening which will benefit your child in the years to come.

In addition to the evening itself, the management of Scallys have donated an excellent Christmas hamper full of goodies for all the family! Tickets are £1 each and will be on sale every morning between tomorrow and Thursday 1st December. The hamper and ticket sales will then move to Scally’s bar for final sales to their regular customers. The draw for the hamper will take place at Scally’s Bar on Friday 9th December. Our thanks go to Mark Gowland (parent in YR) and the management of Scally’s bar for organising this on our behalf.

School Uniform: Following a suggestion from parents, we have added a new item to our range of products which is ideal for the winter months. The office is now stocking a variety of sizes of zip-up reversible waterproof fleeces at the reasonable price of £14 each. Anyone interested should visit the office to view them and purchase. Please label the inside label with permanent marker to ensure your money is not wasted! Our nearly new uniform stock is high if you need a few bargains to keep your child looking smart at school. We are always glad to receive high quality items of uniform that your child has grown out of. The nearly new shop is in the main building near the staffroom and is available every day at the beginning or end of the day.

Neighbourhood Issues: Would you like to speak to your local beat police officers or your local councillor about a current issue faced by you and your family? If so, they are available to meet local residents at Ashcombe Children’s Centre tomorrow (16 November) at 10.30-11.30. Simply go along and raise your issue to those who may have the influence to help.

Children in Need: Friday 18 November: We have suggested that children donate £1 each to take part in our “Show your Spots” day. In these difficult financial times we understand if some families are able to donate as much as this, especially if they have 3 or 4 children in school. On the other hand other families may wish to donate more than the suggested £1 for this very worthy cause. Please give the donation that your family can afford if your child would like to take part on Friday

AFA Non-Uniform Day: Friday 25 November: Ahead of their ever-popular Christmas Fayre the AFA committee are asking parents to donate a gift of alcohol, chocolate or desirable gift in return for their child not wearing school uniform on this date. We hope that all parents can support this initiative which will boost the quality of prizes we can offer at the fayre on Friday 2 December.

Yours sincerely

Peter Turner
