We have all settled in well to the start of our new school year and life in year one. We are challenging ourselves to push our learning further and to continue on the successes we had in our reception year.
This term we have been learning through our topic 'Into the woods' and we began with the question 'What lives in the woods?'
We read the story 'Where's my teddy?' and predicted what the little boy saw in the woods. We are currently learning the story of 'The Three Little Pigs' and putting actions to the story. Whilst also creating character descriptions and learning more about story settings and how to use adjectives to improve our writing.
In maths we have been working on place value, finding one more and one less, ordering numbers, learning to write numbers in words and addition and subtraction.
In science we have been finding out about seasons and how the woods change during each season, we then moved onto materials and properties of materials. We are looking forward to building homes for the three little pigs and testing them with materials of our choice. Whilst at forest school we also used twigs like the second little pig and built stick homes.
In art we have taken inspiration from our woods topic to help us create lots of tree scenes using collage and line and tone.
In PE we have been exploring shape and balance in gymnastics and in REAL PE we have been developing our fundamental movement skills in hopping, side stepping and side steps with a pivot. This was all linked to a 'riding a bike' theme which we all thought was fun and very different.
